This is the first film of upcoming film series containing of three epic fantasy adventure films. The Other two films are The Desolation of Smaug (2013) and There and Back Again (2014). These films are based on J. R. R. Tolkien's fantasy novel called The Hobbit

Plot

A curious Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, starts a journey to the Lonely Mountain with an energetic group of Dwarves to retrieve a treasure stolen from them by the dragon Smaug

Locations

Shooting starts on 21 March 2011 in Wellington, New Zealand. The cities include Matamata and other undisclosed locations around New Zealand. The shoot finished on 6 July 2012
